Breaking into a name brand tech company when going to a smaller/less known school

I went to a smaller university in the greater Toronto Area for Computer Science and I’m graduating in 2023. I’ve gotten a few internships, but have yet to crack into the more lucrative companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft, etc.

What are some tips to stick out compared to graduates who went to the name brand schools (i.e U of T, MIT, Stanford, University of Waterloo, etc.)

Would really appreciate the advice!

Referrals are super key! Try to meet people at these companies or use https://refermarket.com/ (I guess it goes without saying since we’re all here).

i went to a tiny liberal-arts school in the mid-west and studied anthropology and work at Intel. anyone can work in tech.

Go the extra mile on interviewing and getting the right attention from recruiters.
